The Story of the Amazing Kendrick Brothers

This is the story of the Kendrick Brothers and how they came to make some of the biggest and most life changing Christian movies of all time.

If you don’t live under a rock – surely you’ve heard by now – of the Kendrick Brothers – who just released the movie War Room … which was preceded by Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, Courageous and numerous books and other life changing projects.

My church – Weaver Creek Baptist, in Metropolis – is in the process of showing all of the Kendrick Brothers movies FREE. And what a life changing experience it has been too.

The Kendrick Brothers

The Kendrick Brothers are sons of an ordained minister and all 3 of them grew up with a love of making movies. Their story tells of 3 little boys – who – while other kids were out doing this and that – they were busy making their own home movies with the Super 8mm movie camera their parents had given them. It’s said that the camera got them in as much trouble as it did them good – because they were mischievous as little boys and liked shooting adventurous things.

Fast Forward to their adulthood: In 2002, Alex approached the pastor of his church (Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga) with the idea to make a faith based movie as a christian outreach project. But he was going to need about $20,000 FOR this project. The pastor told him the church couldn’t afford that project on their own budget – but if he could come up with the money – he had his approval and would be backed by the church with prayer.

The Kendrick Brothers

After sharing his dream with his congregation – donations began coming in and within weeks he was writing the script for “Flywheel.” Flywheel was intended to be just a movie made by the congregation of Sherwood Baptist Church to be shown to the community. But when word got out about how powerful this movie was – it’s showing spread like wildfire. And their journey to make the best christian/faith based movies of all time – began.

The really neat thing about the first 3 or 4 movies WAS that all the actors were members of their church and friends and family. And the first few movies were just made with a cheap movie camera. To ME? That didn’t affect the movie in a negative way at all – but only made them more interesting and powerful in my opinion.

Each movie packs a very strong wallop. You’d have to be made of stone not to be moved by these movies. They’re interesting, entertaining, thought provoking and just absolutely life changing.

With Christmas coming – I’m going to make these movies by the Kendrick Brothers part of my giving. Because these movies are ALL life changing in big ways. And it’s simple things really – that we all should already know. But it’s seeing the stories on video and feeling the jolt they give to our hearts – that makes them priceless. I hope you’ll consider doing the same.
