This is My Daily Journal and today is Tuesday, February 20th, 2018. Ok so now we’ve hopefully restored our love life with our pre Valentine’s Day plans and actions and we’ve given some thought to just how we’re going to make our homes just a little more cozy and we’re going to be going into that in great detail very soon – so today – let’s just tell a story – how bout it?
It was about the year 2001 and as I’ve said I’ve been a stay at home homemaker for most of our 51+ years together – but when our last little rascal flew the coop – and Geezer still had 7 years left before he could retire – I wanted to try my hand at working out in the real world and I went to work at Hobby Lobby as their head cashier. It was the most unusual – 7 years of my life – and I should have kept a daily journal of my adventures during that 7 years – but I didn’t think of it – so I’m sharing my old worldly stories now and then – as they pop into my mind 🙂
My Daily Journal: The Day I Checked Out The Bride Of Satan At Hobby Lobby
It was just like any old Wednesday morning at Hobby Lobby and it was fairly early – about 10 a.m. – and our floor manager Joan came up to the registers and there were 3 of us on check out duty that morning.
Joan said “Now the Bride of Satan is back in the fabric department and she’s causing all kinds of crazy havoc and ripping them apart with every word. Joan said “She’s very dressy – in a dress and coat – has on all black – and even a hat and high heels – you can’t miss her.” When you see her coming towards the check out – just call me to the front and I’ll come and check her out and get her out of here. I don’t want any of you to check her out – because she’s a monster.
Joan walked away and I was thinking to myself – “Girl – in the break room you often have one of the worst and nastiest dispositions and vocabularies I’ve ever heard – so I’m really not seeing how “YOU” can make a bad situation better – especially when personalities and verbal communication are involved.
So I finished checking out the customer I had at my counter and just got off the register and I just started straightening around the front candy counters – as I was watching for this ‘Bride of Satan’ to approach the front of the store.
It wasn’t but a very few minutes and I heard the clomp of her heels – coming my way. And then I saw her – and yes – she looked like something off of an old movie from the 1940’s – and had a look on her face like she had just had a roll of rusty old barbed wire for breakfast.
SO I called out to her as she approached the check out and I said “Hi Ma’am – come on over here to my register and let me check you out.” I said “I’m having kind of a rough day – and maybe you can cheer me UP.”
The Bride of Satan stomped behind me to register 3 and I just began simple – every day chit chat and I could sense that she was mellowing. I said “Boy I don’t know what it is about bad days – but when I have one – it always feels like that day is dragging on forever.” She started sharing with me about her day – and she was actually on the way to a funeral visitation. She talked about what a sad and down day she was having too. She even smiled a time or two.
I finished her up and as she was walking away – she turned and came back to my register – reached over and patted my hand and she said “Honey – I hope your day perks up – some times – a bad day can be rough.”
Personalities and dispositions are like noses – we all have them – and some are better than others – and there are a gazillion things in any one day – that can affect our demeanor in either a negative or positive way.
I LOVED the ladies that worked in the fabric department – but I’m guessing who ever was back there that day – was not having a great day herself – didn’t click with the Bride of Satan – and one thing led to another – and BAM – sparks flew.
But for ME – this old Granny Goose – loose from the canyon for this short period of time – this Bride of Satan was a challenge and she just made my day. We ALL have burdens that we carry now and then – but if we’ll ALL just be more loving and sensitive to the worries and burdens of others – this whole wide world will be a better place. Because “If we unite – nobody falls”
I wasn’t even having a bad day that day – YUP – I LIED! God understands those kinda lies – I was pulling her in close enough – that I could make a connection – and see if I could perk up HER day – and I did.
I absolutely LOVED my 7 years at Hobby Lobby – and later this week – I’ll tell you about the Baptist preacher that I checked out one day – that was tons worse than the Bride of Satan 🙂 And we tangled …
If when something bad is thrown into one of our storybook days – we just have to remember to tell ourselves that “We have a 100% success rate – so far – of surviving bad days. SO the odds are REALLY in our favor – JUST CHILL!!!
Peace and lots of love – coming right to you – from Round Knob Canyon
