This is My Daily Journal and today is Monday, February 26th, 2018 and as I’ve said many times – since we’re a retired couple trying to live a slower paced and cozier and more simple life – Monday is absolutely my favorite day of the week – because it means I have a whole week ahead of me – to where I don’t even have to pull out of our lane – unless there’s an emergency or we just want to. So YAH MONDAY!!! 🙂
I have an over stuffed book nook I want to tidy today – a church newsletter to finish and send to press – and some deeper speed cleaning to do – because I know Geezer will have a project in the workshop for 2-3 hours since the weather is going to be reasonable – and I’m already started on my next Junk Book Journal. In fact – I’m more seasoned now after about 100 hours on this last one :8) – at making them to sell – so I have the next TWO started. 🙂
I’ve made many junk books over the decades – but it’s so much harder when you know you’re making one to sell – because you want it to be well worth the price these books go for. But it’s going to be a very busy day – but warm and cozy – with a good thick and homemade beef stew and corn bread waiting for us at the end of our day – with lots of old time comforts splashed in here and there with our home grown work load.
My Daily Journal: My Magic Lotion – A Must Read Story
I hope you have time for this story today – because it is a real eye opener – about this homemade lotion that I’ve made for 20 years – that I just call – Magic Lotion. YOU HAVE GOT to read the responses I have received in just the last 2 weeks – since I handed out a bunch of it as random gifts.
SO – here we go with that story – FINALLY 🙂
We had our Secret Sister Reveal on February 10th and had a luncheon at the church for that reveal gathering. It was so much fun – with lots of stories and giggles and laughter and great food – and we had each brought our last gift for the current secret sister (we reveal and start over every 3 months) and we all brought a pot luck dish to share at lunch.
As I often do – I got all my own things lined out to make and bring and accumulated the things to fill my bag for my secret sister – and I just decided to take a little something for all of them – and I think there was 14 of us. SO I decided to make up a batch of my Magic Lotion and put it in my little 2 ounce containers that I keep handy – just for giving away little things like that – or samples of other creams, etc that I make – so I mixed it up – filled my little containers and placed them all on a big tray.
We had our wonderful lunch – and time came for the reveal and gift exchange and when we were done – I got my tray and passed out my Magic Lotion to each Secret Sister.
They all immediately started opening the containers and smelling (it just smells like coconut or baby lotion – no cologne scent at all) and putting it on their hands and just oohing and aahing on and on and on. Several wrote down the simple recipe saying they would be making a batch immediately – and we dismissed to head back to our own homes –
I got 2 private messages on facebook later that night – raving about this cream and one was saying how much her husband loved it – because he works in paper and cardboard all day and his hands are always so rough and cracked and just one application of this magic lotion had made such a difference.
NEXT MORNING at church – I had several come to me – raving about that cream.
THREE MEN – raved about using a bit of their wives cream and how it was the best they had ever used on their very rough hands. One friend asked if she gave me the money to buy supplies if I’d just make her a big batch – and several commented they were going to make it or would buy it from me.
I told them I don’t sell the cream – but for the ones that really liked it and needed it for serious chapped hands or feet – I’d make another big batch and bring it the next Sunday.
The following Sunday – I had 5 more jars to hand out – but these were larger 4 ounce jars and those that had asked about possibly getting more from “me” were thrilled to get it.
I had another man tell me yesterday – that he had extremely cracked feet and he’s been using it after his evening shower and putting it on and then sleeping in socks – and what a difference it has made on his crusted and painful feet.
YESTERDAY – now just the 3rd Sunday after they all got their magic lotion at the reveal luncheon – we turned in our papers and drew to get our ‘new’ Secret Sister for the next 3 months.
TWO WOMEN contacted me yesterday to say that in the spot where we write down our favorites – and in the spot for ‘favorite lotion’ – Kay’s Homemade Lotion – was filled in – in that spot. LoL
THIS IS AMAZING – BECAUSE – some of these creams on the market today are selling for close to $20 or more and this is a simple lotion that I put together with 3 items from the Dollar General store – costing – yup – you guessed it – $3 total.
My Daily Journal: Magic Lotion Recipe
Vitamin E Cream – and it’s in a little white jar at the Dollar General for a dollar if you can find one jar – but often comes in a pack of 2. It’s a white label with a big E on the front. “I” put THIS down as MY favorite lotion – because I make and give away so much of this stuff – and it’s just nice to have extras 🙂 My daddy didn’t raise no dummy … lol
Baby Lotion – and that’s just that big flat pink bottle of baby lotion – and I buy the Dollar Store brand – it’s also $1
Vaseline – and most of us have that setting around at home – but is also available at Dollar General.
I DID ADD Garden of Life Coconut Oil to my batches this time – just because I had it and I use a ton of coconut oil myself – so I just put a couple tablespoons in the huge batch of cream mixture. But you can buy Lou Ann’s Coconut Oil at Walmart – in the cooking oil section for about $4 if you want to add that to your own batch.
I mix all of this on a paper plate and use a plastic fork to mash it together. It’s sometimes a little lumpy – but that’s still the best way to do it and then you just throw the paper plate and plastic fork away. It’s nothing for me to make 2-3 paper plates full at one time –
I LOVE giving things like this – I’ve often said “I live to give” – lol But HEY – there are worse hobbies than over loving and over giving 🙂 so please don’t knock it till you’ve tried it yourself 🙂
I’m burning daylight and TONS to do today – but wanted to share this recipe –
Peace and just lots of love – coming to you – from Round Knob Canyon
