What is Diabetes?
We hear so much about Diabetes these days. What IS Diabetes?
Well – Diabetes is a nasty little metabolic (caused by abnormal changes) disease where the body doesn’t have the ability to produce any or enough insulin and that causes sugar to rise in your blood.
Some say once you start taking a prescription for diabetes that you must be on it for life. But I’m here to tell you that many or most diabetics CAN put their diabetes into remission.
Now you have to stay on your toes to KEEP it in remission … because just like diet and lifestyle GAVE you diabetes … diet and lifestyle can pull it back out of remission and give it back to you with a double whammy.
But it can be done most of the time. ALWAYS under the supervision of your own family doctor.
Type 2 Diabetes and it’s Symptoms
Type 2 Diabetes is often called Adult Onset Diabetes. In Type 2 Diabetes … it usually IS diet and lifestyle that put you where you have just found yourself.
Type 2 Diabetes is where you haven’t been taking quite as good care of yourself as you should have.
You thought you were indestructible but now you learn you were actually wrong and now you’re sick as a dog with Type 2 Diabetes.
Well good! You’re tired and draggy all the time … you have brain fog and you just KNOW you’re tons smarter than your mind/brain is making your seem.
You’re thirsty all the time and run to the potty every 15 minutes. Sleep at night is almost impossible because of all the night time potty runs.
Your mouth gets dry and you can’t put your words together in as comfy way as you’d like.
Your vision is blurry from the high levels of sugar and there’s often numbness and tingling in your extremities. Well isn’t this fun? And all because you loved cake and ice cream and fried potatoes too much. And was it worth it? NO!!!
Blood Sugar
Blood Sugar can keep you in tip top shape or it can send you and your plans to the dumper in a heart beat. I have problems with blood sugar myself AND I KNOW BETTER than to let that happen. But it’s something you have to stay on top of 24/7.
A good blood sugar before breakfast would be one that’s about 80 to 100 but it starts to rise as we start to eat. Usually within 2 hours of eating, most of us have a blood sugar of about 160 – but it will go back down if we’ll just eat and be done with it and not have lunch and then snack until supper and then snack from supper to bedtime.
If you’re eating the right foods, your blood sugar will stay fairly stable and you won’t have the cravings you have when your blood sugar drops.
Good foods for a good blood sugar are nuts, seeds, sardines/mackerel, spinach, a little wedge of cheese. When I have a really busy day I have a mid morning snack of just about 4-5 walnut halves and a little wedge of cheese and I can go like a house a fire and sharp as a tack until about 3pm when I need to do that same thing again unless we’re about to have supper soon.
We all know the jokes about naps after the Sunday noon meal. And do you know why that is? It’s because we have corn and potatoes and gravy and rolls and butter and Sweet Tea or Coca Colas or a big glass of ice cold milk. My sugar would drop so low I’d almost go into a COMA on those foods. I often talk about how leary I am of being put to sleep for surgery … and I always add … “Forget the anesthesia … Just give me a Chocolate Chip Cookie and glass of milk and I’ll be out like a light in no time” And that’s so true.
Diabetes Treatment
It’s very easy to become overwhelmed with ANY health problem … much less something as serious as Diabetes. But if you start out slow and on the right path and take one step at a time – you will be on the road to living a healthier life as a diabetic in remission.
Your first course of action would be to notice your current sugar and carb intake and be honest with yourself as to whether you are doing the right things to get well.
THEN start to Create a “Diabetic Friendly” lifestyle. It’s as easy as that. And those cravings? If you’re giving your body the nutrients it needs to be healthy … those cravings will vanish in a matter of days. I can say these things with certainty because I turned my husband’s own diabetes around after 4 years. And it only took 6 weeks. SO it CAN BE DONE!
Those of us with diabetes just need to get busy and DO it. Just as my old geezer did. ONE MAJOR MISTAKE most make is switching from real sugar to artificial sugar. Your liver is not a rocket scientist and when something sweet comes down the goozle … that old liver doesn’t KNOW if it’s getting real sugar or artificial sugar. So all the little pac men down in Liver Land just start jumping up and down and yelling “IT’S SWEET – IT’S SWEET – IT’S SWEET!!!
Just STOP all sugar and high carbs to get yourself on the right track. THEN IF you can add back a little something sweet, down the road … ALWAYS use the real thing. A little of the real thing is a lot healthier for you … than a TON of that artificial poison.
Managing Diabetes with Holistic Medicine
I wrote an article on this about four years ago … there’s no telling what “I” called it, but when Kim found it she changed the name to Diabetes – 3 Steps to Begin Correcting it TODAY! If I were to add ONE step to the three steps I mentioned in that article, it would be – DUMP THE ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER TOO! It’s better to have just a tiny bit of real sugar … than to have a ton of artificial sweetener … and that’s the truth …
