This is just a word of encouragement from “My Daily Journal.”
All through the years when the kids were growing up – I had this poem on our fridge. Seems like from the time the first one started school … it was always something. I’d take them to the frig and read this poem first ‘to’ them when they were younger and then when they got older … WITH them. They got to where they could recite it by memory by the time they were each in their mid teens. Things haven’t stopped going wrong to this day. Maybe that’s kind of ‘normal’ for a big active family – I’m not sure. But it was and is true for us.
I love this poem and have used it often through the years … A while back – I was so discouraged with a couple of problems that seem like they just won’t stop … and Kim said “Remember the “When Things Go Wrong” poem? And I said “Of course I do!” She said “You should do a blog on that poem and as you’re typing it – read it over and over to yourself.
I really need it today – and I’m pretty sure there are a few others that could use it. SO here we go …
Don’t Quit!
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
