If we could understand cravings, what they mean and how to avoid them – we could probably solve one of the greatest mysteries of the world. Fact is – we can!
Food cravings can simply be a psychological problem – but more often than not – they are a sign that some nutrient is lacking in our bodies.
STOP The Cravings!
There are so many cravings – we could talk all day about them. But while we’re talking and studying – let’s see if we can’t come up with a way to STOP THE CRAVINGS – while we’re trying to figure out why we’re craving this or that.
If you start your day with a sugary breakfast or even snack – you are setting yourself on the path for a day of diet failure before you ever get your street shoes on.
Cravings: A Destructive Breakfast
Toast? Cereal? Biscuits and Gravy? Cinnamon Rolls or other pastries? ALL OF THESE and more – will keep you at way less than your best and assure that you will not have a good day in general. Now WHO would want THAT?
Cravings: An Energizing Start To Your Day
To keep your blood sugar at a healthy place all day – you must almost always mix a little protein – a little low carb and a little good fat.
You can do that as simply as eating 1/2 apple – 5 or 6 almonds and 1/2 avocado. Now that may not sound like a breakfast for Champions – but if you want to BE a Champion of the day – it WILL be.
Apples contain pectin and pectin will reduce the amount of sugar that is absorbed in your bloodstream after a meal. They also prevent blood sugar spikes.
Just 5 or 6 almonds will give you a good boost of antioxidants and Vitamin E and Magnesium.
Avocados are loaded with good monounsaturated fats and will give you that little bit of fat that you really need – AND make you feel full.
Cravings: This IS The Answer!
If you’re struggling with days that are destroyed by cravings – you’re probably also at a point to where you can’t even think straight. SO start your day with 1/2 apple – 5 or 6 almonds and half an avocado and see if your tomorrow isn’t one of your best days you’ve had in awhile.
Keep that momentum going – by doing the same with your lunch and supper.
Have a little lean protein – a little healthy fat and a little fiber or low carb.
I think you’ll find that you’ve just put yourself on the road to more energy and probably even start to lose a few pounds.
Make those heavy and sugary snacks a treat – NOT a daily thing.
If you’re going to start your day with a Twinkie or donut or Little Debbie cake – you may as well have your Twinkie or Little Debbie cake – down it with a glass of milk and just climb back in bed – because your day is virtually done anyway.
THEN you will be able to think about and decide what foods you really crave and what nutrient you are lacking that makes you crave that particular food. But as long as your body is craving sugar – you’re just gonna be up a creek without a boat – in trying to figure it all out.
This is not ‘good news’ but it’s information you can take to the bank.
