If you’ll do your dailies, you’ll never be a hoarder! Did you know that? Clutter – clutters our minds and we just can’t function at our best – if we have to clear a path of liter to get to our work space.
We have a choice of what we want to make of our life. And the way we run our own homes will often determine the kinds of homes our kids will live in after they’re grown. Don’t you want the best for your own kids? Well of course you do! SO you do what it takes to give THEM a tidy and warm and fuzzy home – in the hopes that they will make a home just like that for themselves when they’re grown.
Just remember – we take our lives one day at a time and we get out of those days – just exactly what we put into them.
And HEY … we all know I like to make ‘working’ into a ‘game’ … right? SO we could even make a game of each day to see if we can make our today … a lot better than our yesterday … which was pretty magical in itself.
SO let’s analyze this theory and see what we can do to make our lives the very best they can be!
Using Timers – If We’ll Do Our Dailies We’ll Never Be a Hoarder
I even set at least 1 or 2 timers on one of my little tables on the patio when I’m working in the garden because while I’m doing that I’ve also got the laundry going inside or something in the oven or something on the stove or in the crock pot … Or I need to run in and check blog messages so they don’t mount too high … OR I need to quit at a certain time to run an errand.
The most important thing you can do for your home is not to constantly be buying new things FOR it. The most important thing you can do for you home is keep clean, tidy and orderly what you have ‘now’. And a strong warm and fuzzy touch wouldn’t hurt anything.
I have what I call my ‘dailies’. I learned about the ‘dailies’ from the Sidetracked Sisters in the early 1970s.
What ARE Dailies?
Dailies are things that you just must do each and every day.
Pick up litter, make the bed, wash and dry and put all dishes away, sweep and mop, tidy the bathroom, and shine your kitchen and bathroom sinks once they’re empty and your counter tops are clean. These are things I also call “Surface cleaning.” If someone were to walk in unexpectedly – they’d find a fairly tidy home at first glance – BECAUSE I have done my dailies and surface cleaned first thing in the morning.
I LOVE having clean and dry and empty sinks. And I shine my faucets about 6 or 8 times a day. That takes me all of 15 seconds total when I include ALL of those 6 or 8 times. Now WHO doesn’t have 15 seconds a day to wipe out their sinks and shine their faucets and dry around their sinks? I never ever leave a sink – without wiping it out if I’ve just washed something or my hands AND I quickly wipe the faucets with a paper towel or dish towel.
When I go in a public restroom … I don’t care how big a hurry I’m in … that bathroom looks a lot better when I come out after my 2-3 minutes in there than it did when I went in. Some of these women’s restrooms look like the women were raised in a barn. FOR THE LOVE OF PETE! And around the commodes it so wet and nasty it looks like they hung from the ceiling light and tried to aim to go wee wee … YUCK!!!
SO I always take a big wad of paper towels and wipe down the sinks real quick and dry the counter tops. I know that doesn’t last long … but I still know when “I” left there … it was a little more warm and fuzzy than it was or will be the rest of the day.
Mother Teresa said once: ALWAYS leave everything and everybody … a little better and a little happier than you found them. I try to do that in everything I do. How about you?
Feminine – is clean and neat and tidy … NOT expensive clothing and foo foo. And if you want to live a storybook life in LaLa Land … and who doesn’t? Then you just have to sit down and make yourself a good priority list and get it going … because any body can have a storybook life in LaLa land on any budget.
I wrote my very own fairy tale with prayer and elbow grease … and you can do the very same!
Well … that’s it from the canyon for today. Peace and love and I love you all gobs.
