I’ve always said there’s magic all around us if we’ll just look. But did you know there is even magical powers in BLUEBERRIES? Today we’re going to talk about The Magic of Blueberries – A True Superfood.
It’s blueberry season in Southern Illinois and I always love to put up a lot of blueberries. We have blueberries in our freezer most of the year and I just won’t let us run out of blueberries and here’s why.
Health Benefits of Blueberries
Blueberries have a fairly low glycemic index! It runs about 50, but it’s a healthy 50.
There are 80 calories in a cup of berries and it’s a MIRACULOUS SUPERFOOD.
blueberries are loaded with antioxidants and are a real disease fighter!
They’re good for the heart, help prevent cancer AND reduce the risk of developing (especially) colon and ovarian cancer!
Blueberries are good for your vision and brain fog and memory.
They’re good for digestion and GREAT for the nervous system!
They’re loaded with fiber and keep your sugar from dropping so you don’t crave things you shouldn’t eat.
Our Experience with Blueberries
I was having such a problem with my eyes and with brain fog and dizziness and energy and the like and I decided just to go on a CRAZY get healthy trial and toss sugar and high carbs and add some things I knew were healthy.
SO we started the following plan:
Breakfast
Having 1/2 sliced banana and 1/2 container of Black Cherry Activia, and 4 Brazil nuts and 1/2 cup of blueberries and about 6 big strawberries when they were fresh in season and I did this each morning. Well, I’m telling you the truth – when you finish that you feel like you’ve just left the best buffet in the country – FULL AS A TICK as we say out here in the boonies – but energized beyond words. Because you’re getting so many nutrients in one meal.
Lunch
We’re just not much on lunch because it ‘does’ usually knock the props out from under us no matter how healthy we eat. But we’ve found this is just the magic formula for lunch for US – if we even eat lunch – and it’s V8 with lots of cayenne and a few more blueberries. That holds us till about 4pm when we have an early but light evening meal.
Dinner
Supper is usually a lean meat – even steak a time or two during the week and grilled zucchini or other low carb veggies on our George Foreman grill and my goodness – you just feel like Jack LaLanne.
This simple and meager diet has just given us energy like you can’t hardly imagine.
NOW – what is GIVING us this energy is leaving off the sugar and flooding our body with nutrients and we’re not craving anything. Our sugar isn’t dropping – my brain fog is gone and I have energy out the wazoo.Blueberries are one of the highest rated of all fruits and veggies for health benefits.
THIS IS BLUEBERRY SEASON. I will be putting several gallons of blueberries in our freezer this week. I’m already working on them and I hope you’ll give them a try too.
Peace and love from the canyon! I love you all gobs and thanks so SO much for stopping by! Until next time, you are loved.
